Release Notes for XML Authority™ 1.2

Welcome

Thank you for your interest in XML Authority, the most comprehensive XML schema design, conversion, and management solution available. We are committed to your success with XML and schemas.

This version offers significant enhancements for all our customers and we are confident that it will meet or exceed your expectations.

New Features

XML-Schema (XSDL) Support: XML Authority includes substantial support for the W3C XML-Schema, April 7th, 2000 draft. We are committed to supporting this emerging standard and will continue to add additional support with each new release.

Enhanced Conversion Facilities:  New dialog boxes and validation previews will minimize the impact of the "lossy" effect on a schema through conversions from a complex schema dialect to a more basic one. (e.g. from SOX to DTD)

Enhanced Printing: This capability has been vastly improved to allow for the publishing of schemas in a variety of styles, including content-model diagrams and hierarchal element views.

Importer Improvements:  Technology improvements have significantly reduced the time required to import data sources including, the importing of COBOL copybooks.

Tamino Support:  XML Authority allows you to save your schemas to Software AG's information server Tamino.  A new Tamino sub-dialect of XDR has been included to allow users to append Tamino-specific meta-information to their schemas.

BizTalk Support:  XML Authority now supports BizTalk version 1.0 XML document export.

Namespaces, attributes and joins definitions: URLs can now be used to define a namespace, attribute or join.

Internet-enabled Open / Save Features: Schema files can be opened from and saved to any accessible URL.  Thus, schemas can reside on the data store of your company, a trading partner or an Internet repository, as long as they are publicly accessible. Also includes a plug-in API that allows developers to access other data repositories.

RELAX Schema Dialect Support:  The new feature allows you to export schemas in the RELAX schema dialect.  Further support of this emerging schema dialect will be incorporated into future releases of XML Authority.

Known Issues

XML Authority 1.2 will not run if you are using a lower version of Sunâs JRE 1.2.2.  Users must install swingall.jar into the XML Authority 1.2 root directory to run the program.

Printing functionality is disabled if you are not running XML Authority 1.2 under Sun's JRE 1.2.2.  Installing Sunâs JRE 1.2.2 will enable and enhance existing printing capabilities.

When cursor trailing is enabled in Windows and running XML Authority 1.2 under Sun's JRE 1.2.2 and 1.3, repainting of the user interface is sometimes irregular.  Disabling the cursor trails resolves the problem.

XA Full Install vs. XA Minimal Install

The full install of XML Authority for Windows includes the executable, help files and Sun's JRE 1.2.2 installer.  The minimal install only includes the executable with help files online.  If you have a constant internet connection and Sun's JRE 1.2.2 (or higher) installed, the minimal install is all you'll need.

The Macintosh and Unix Full and Minimal installs differ by including the help files.
